Screening at the Israel Museum:

The Invention of Chris Marker

 (2020)

On Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at 18:00, the Israel Museum in Jerusalem will host a special screening of The Invention of Chris Marker (2020), followed by a conversation with filmmaker Matan Tal.

The event is part of the exhibition Chris Marker: The Lost Photographs from Israel. In this film, Tal investigates Marker’s mysterious “Cat Channel” on YouTube — an archive of cryptic videos, feline imagery, and obsessive fan communities that Marker maintained until his death in 2012.

Through this unusual digital detective story, the film explores Marker’s legacy in the internet age, where virtual identities, memory, and cinematic history overlap.

🎟 Admission: Included with museum entry

📍 Location: Israel Museum, Jerusalem – Exhibition Hall

🗣 Language: Hebrew

This event offers a rare opportunity to experience Marker’s influence through a contemporary lens and to hear directly from Matan Tal about the ways Marker’s work continues to resonate in digital culture.
